Introducing TestMonitor 8

by Thijs Kok, on November 30, 2024

Today, we are excited and proud to announce the upcoming launch of TestMonitor 8!

First and foremost, our team would like to say a big thank you to all of the TestMonitor users who have helped us to improve and enhance our platform over the years. Your feedback, comments, and tips help us ensure that you always have access to the best test management tool out there.

We believe that test case management is the backbone of any effective testing tool. We’re thrilled to unveil a suite of new features for TestMonitor 8 that bring unprecedented flexibility, enhanced visibility, and advanced capabilities to test case management—empowering teams to elevate their testing processes like never before.

Without further ado, let’s jump right into the new developments and updates you will see in TestMonitor 8!

Introducing Folders for Test Case Management

One of the most notable changes is that TestMonitor 8 introduces folders as a replacement for traditional test suites. This change offers enhanced organization and flexibility for test case management. Users can easily reorder, structure hierarchies, and organize test cases using drag-and-drop functionality, providing a more intuitive and efficient approach to test case organization.

  • Simplified navigation: Click on a folder in the left panel to view its test cases instantly on the right, just like managing files on your computer. (screenshot)
  • Start without setup: Create test cases directly in the home folder and organize them into a tailored folder structure later.
  • Effortless duplication: Clone folders with ease, including the ability to include subfolders and test cases.
  • Streamlined importing: Import test cases into designated folders, or let the importer create folders and organize them automatically.

Reorder Requirements, Risks, and Test Cases

One of our most requested features is now available—the ability to reorder requirements, risks, and test cases with simple drag-and-drop functionality.

This enhancement allows you to:

  • Move critical requirements or risks to the top for easy access.
  • Position a new test case exactly where an outdated one used to be.
  • Arrange test cases in a logical flow, such as CRUD, for better clarity.

Import Test Cases from Other Projects

When designing test cases, reusing existing ones from other projects can save valuable time. Our new import feature enables you to:

  • Browse all test cases across TestMonitor and select those you want to copy to your project.
  • Utilize filters for project, author, or search queries to quickly find the test cases you need.
  • Maximize reusability without the hassle of copy-pasting or complex export/import processes.

Redesigned Pages for Better Visualization

We've revamped the pages for individual test cases, test runs, test results, and issues. These redesigns offer:

  • More space in tables, improving readability and allowing you to add extra columns for added context.
  • The ability to instantly view test run statuses with intuitive charts and helpful stats.

Track Test Results Overhaul

The Track Test Cases page has been transformed into a dedicated Test Case Coverage Report, accessible via a quick report shortcut. Additionally, a convenient new sidebar displays detailed information for each test result and its related test case.

Additional Enhancements

While these are the main highlights, we've also made several other improvements to streamline your workflow:

Test Case Name Lengths Increase

The limit for test case names is now extended to 255 characters.

Improved Test Case Importer

  • The mapping process is even more simple! View all mappable fields in a single overview and easily choose which fields map to which Excel columns.

  • Optional instruction merging prevents accidental merges. Users can now force the importer to create a new test case even if a matching name already exists, which gives you more control over the import process. For example, users can intentionally overwrite existing test cases if needed rather than accidentally merging instructions.

Report Shortcuts

  • We’ve added even more handy shortcuts to key reports across TestMonitor. For example, users can quickly access the requirements coverage report directly from the requirements overview.

With the addition of folders, several new API endpoints have also been introduced, while others have been updated, deprecated, or removed.

Note: If your app interacts with the TestMonitor API, we recommend reviewing the API changelog to stay informed of any changes that may impact your integration.
